It is crucial to protect the environment to reduce the consumption of eco-systems caused by human activities. It is more of moral responsibility for humans to protect the environment from pollution and other activities that lead to environmental degradation. Air pollution, water pollution, global warming, smog, acid rain, deforestation, wildfires are just a few of the environmental issues that we are facing in recent days. Everyone must take care of the environment to make this planet a perfect living place. No need to put money to go green, but simple changes in daily lifestyle are all that is required to reduce your carbon footprint on the environment.
The following are a few suggestions on what we should consider for being part of nature conservation (in our routine);
Plant more trees: Trees play a vital role in creating shades on the ground. Urban trees help buildings to stay cold and fresh, and it will reduce the need for electric fans or air conditioners. And the trees act as natural filters to remove the harmful particles from the atmosphere.
Wash your clothing in cold water: The enzymes in cold water detergent are designed to clean better in cold water. Doing two loads of laundry weekly in cold water instead of warm water can save up to 500 pounds of CO2 each year.
Turn your water heater down: Turn your water heater down to 120˚F. This can save about 550 pounds of CO2 a year.
Low-flow shower-head: Installing a low-flow shower-head to reduce hot water use can save 350 pounds of CO2.
Change incandescent light bulbs: Change incandescent light bulbs (which waste 90 percent of their energy as heat) to LEDs (light emitting diodes). Though LEDs cost more, they use a quarter of the energy and lasts up to 25 times longer.
Avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration: Some studies found that aggressive driving can result in 40 percent more fuel consumption than consistent.
Transportation: Use carpooling or public transport rather than private vehicles. This will help to reduce the rate of CO2 in the atmosphere.
Maintain your car properly: Keeping your tires properly inflated can increase your fuel efficiency by 3%, and ensuring that your car is properly maintained can increase it by 4%. Remove any extra weight from the car.
Compost at home: Make compost at home. Through that, we can make fertilizers own and makes it easy to avoid food waste.
Go economy class: While flying, Business class is responsible for almost three times as many emissions as economy. In economy, the flight’s carbon emissions are shared among more passengers.
